Churches and heritage

Chiloé´s religious syncretism materializes in the architecture of these great temples. These constructions made of 100% wood are bearers of a unique cultural tradition, a mixture of indigenous techniques and European architectural conceptions, which were erected in the seventeenth century and remain until today as a World Heritage Site and a world reference for architecture, originating the school Chilota of religious architecture to which 100 of the almost 400 churches that are distributed in the archipelago belong.

Our first destination will be the Church of San Juan Bautista de Coquihuil located in the San Juan river inlet, it was built with native woods from Alerce, Canelo, Coigüe and Ciprés in 1887, from the hotel it is 45 minutes to get there, we will continue to the Church of Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio in Tenaún, this church with its three "bell towers" and bright colors are the most typical and picturesque image of the Chiloé temples, the next destination is the Church of San Antonio de Padua in Colo, one of the few Churches that are not connected to the sea but on top of a hill, have stone bases, Coigue pillars and are lined with Canelo, Alerce and Mañio, we will continue to the Church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores in Dalcahue and cross to the Island Quinchao, visiting the Church of San Judas Tadeo in Curaco de Velez where an important settlement of settlers developed.

We will continue to Achao, which was a typical indigenous town and port of connection between the minors and Castro, currently here lies the Santa Maria de Loreto Church, the oldest in Chiloé and in Quinchao our last visit, the Nuestra Señora de la Grace the greatest of Chiloé.
